The Lewisville Historical Society Presents... Historic Richmond Hill: The Last Place in the Universe
Join us as local historian Greg Cheek discusses Yadkin County's historic gem, Richmond Hill, on Monday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at the bi-monthly meeting of the Lewisville Historical Society.
Once the home place of North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Richmond Mumford Pearson (1805-1878), Richmond Hill was also the site where Pearson operated a law school from 1846 until 1878, possibly teaching up to 1,000 students during that time, despite the remoteness of its location.
Greg Cheek currently serves as chair of the Richmond Hill Law School Commission and has been active in local historical organizations. He is working on his first book, which is based on the Civil War letters of Lt. Col. Thomas Lafayette Lowe (1831-1862) of the 28th North Carolina Infantry Regiment.
Lewisville Historical Society Presents ... is a bimonthly program of the Lewisville Historical Society and the Lewisville Branch Library. It is free and open to the public. Participants do not need to be members of the society to attend.
A short business meeting of the society is held before the featured program. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Lewisville Branch Library at 336-703-2940 or the Lewisville Historical Society at 336-766-5842.
