The Walkertown Branch Library Afterthoughts Book Club will meet on Tuesday, September 13 at 11 am to discuss “Pretty Monsters” by Kelly Link. This 2008 collection of short stories has received widespread praise from reviewers and readers alike. Spanning fantasy, horror, and magical realism, Link's witty writing will appeal to both teens and adults. “Pretty Monsters” is the 2018 Forsyth County Public Library On the Same Page selection.
“Pretty Monsters” is a collection of ten short stories that includes “The Faery Handbag,” winner of the Hugo, Nebula, & Locus awards. “Magic for Beginners” won the Nebula, BSFA, & Locus awards. Link has received praise for “Pretty Monsters” from fellow authors such as Alice Sebold, (“The Lovely Bones”), Audrey Niffenegger (“The Time Traveler’s Wife”), and Holly Black (“The Spiderwick Chronicles”).
