Forsyth County Eligible to Receive $169,750 in Grant Funds From the Bureau of Justice Assistance

Forsyth County and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office are eligible to apply for and receive grant funds awarded through the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The JAG Program, administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions and supports a range of program areas including law enforcement, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, crime victim and witness initiatives, and planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs.

All JAG allocations (eligibility information) are calculated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) based on the statutory JAG formula and displayed on BJA's JAG web page each fiscal year (FY). Refer to the JAG Technical Report for a detailed step-by-step breakdown of the JAG award calculation process.

The 2017 JAG allocation to Forsyth County is $169,750, which will be shared equally by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Sheriff’s Office proposes to use its portion for the purchase of: a forensics computer to assist with cyber-crimes; a surveillance camera that can be used with the Agency’s Mobile Command Unit as well as for quick deployment events, crime solving and crime prevention; red dot rifle sights, and; replacement air recoil kits and CO2 refill nozzles for the Agency’s Use-of-Force Simulator Training Room.

The Sheriff’s Office invites you to share your comments or suggestions regarding this grant award and the planned use of the grant funds. Please email your remarks to business@fcso.us.
