Teen Central’s Banned Books Week Film Fest

Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read, will be held the week of September 24th in 2017. In our Banned Books Week Film Fest each of these films are based on books that have been challenged and ultimately banned in communities across the U.S.For this year’s celebration, the coalition of organizations that sponsors Banned Books Week have decided to emphasize the importance of the First Amendment, which guarantees our inherent right to read (and in our case watch).

The Perks of Being a Wallflower|9.24.17| 2-4pm

A timid teenager copes with the pains of adolescence with the help of two new friends, a beautiful high-school senior and her gay stepbrother.

The Golden Compass|9.25.17| 3-5pm

In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization.

Footloose|9.30.17| 2-4pm

Ren (Kenny Wormald) attempts to revitalize a small community that has banned dancing and loud music after the tragic death of five teenagers, but his feelings for the local minister's daughter (Julianne Hough) complicate his mission.
