Children Invited To Read to Two Dogs at Walkertown

Adare and Chloe, Tail-Waggin' Tutors, would love to meet young students willing to practice reading aloud. Adare is a brown Australian shepherd and Chloe, a black and white border collie owned by Mary Donadio of Kernersville. Mary and this pair of lovable listeners visit libraries to help students improve reading skills. Besides learning to recognize sight words and decode longer words, students gain fluency and self-confidence when they read aloud. Additionally, supervised exposure to such friendly, obedient dogs can help offset a fear of dogs.

Visits by Tail Waggin' Tutors are fun for all involved. Every visit to the library is a chance to borrow books. With school resuming, any student who is age 4 or older is encouraged to get a library card. All that is needed for a student's first card is for a parent or legal guardian to come in with a photo ID and proof of current address.
