Forsyth County 4-H Members Place at Nationals

Forsyth County 4-H sent a team to the National Junior Horticulture Association Judging Competition held October 10-13 in Lexington, Kentucky. Team members were Hope Arrowood of Lexington, Samuel Barrick of Winston-Salem, Kade Henderson of Winston-Salem, and Jacob Kline of Pilot Mountain.

The contest teaches youth to recognize and identify some of the most important horticultural crops, to learn criteria influencing quality and to be able to answer questions and solve problems relating to the art and science of horticulture.

There are three portions of the test, including knowledge, judging and identification. Hope said that, "The competition is a wonderful opportunity to put into practice what we are learning in the classroom. It gives us the opportunity to learn from professionals in the field, to travel to different areas of the country, and meet youth from all over the United States." The team placed sixth in the nation in the 4-H competition.
