Summer Reading at Walkertown 2013

Summer Reading at Walkertown Branch this June and July leaves us feeling thankful and happy. We celebrate along with our winners and acknowledge the many presenters who shared their time and talents.

From local movie-makers Wayne and Olena Crawford in mid-June to local model rocket instructors Ann and Art Riddle on July 30, 18 adults shared lRonald McDonald inspired us to read, and the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology taught us about archaeology. Children decorated our sidewalk with sidewalk chalk grafitti, watched a fun film about gnomes, and made rock monsters out of river stones.

Our regular programs of Storytime and Music and Movement had great attendance! We read, danced, and giggled our way through the summer. Teens were amazed by the mind-reading chicanery of Erik Dobell and learned about the writing process by local author Cindy Cipriano.

Overall, our summer programs for children and teens were 1430 people strong! Children turned in 176 reading logs and teens turned in 401 reading logs! We had 762 Adult reading logs turned in which means our adult readers have read 2286 books in two month! What a great lead in reading, parents! We are thankful to our Walkertown patrons for their support of the library and hope you all enjoyed FCPL's Summer Reading Program.

Walkertown Branch Library winners from each age category are as follows: Gerrie E. (adult), Emily B. (teen), Jackson Y. (child).

Congratulations to all our winners and participants! There is still a chance to win the Summer Reading grand prize. The drawing for a $100.00 gift certificate will take place next week at the Central library.
