Muslim Journeys

Do you have questions about Islam? Join us in the Central Library Auditorium on three Sunday afternoons in April for this series of programs about the Muslim experience. The programs are free and open to the public.

April 7, at 2 pm- What is Islam? A presentation on the origins, history and basic beliefs of Islam. Presented by Imam Khalid Griggs of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem.

April 14, at 2 pm- Koran by Heart. Movie program. This film follows the story of three young people from different countries as they train and then compete in the annual International Holy Koran Competition in Cairo. The film will be introduced by Dr. Marlin Adrian, Professor of Religion at Salem College.

April 21, at 2 pm- Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World. Movie program. This film explores the richness of Islamic art, from ornamented palaces and mosques to the beauty of ceramics and paintings. The film will be introduced by Dr. Chanchal Dadlani, Assistant Professor of Art History at Wake Forest University.

For more information about the Muslim experience, the library has books and DVDs to check out. Forsyth County Public Library was recently awarded The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities. This Bookshelf consists of 25 books - including history, fiction, religion, and biography - and three DVDs.
