World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk

Join The Piedmont Triad Regional Council Area Agency on June 16, 2012 for the 1st Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk at Triad Park!

On-site registration begins at 8:00 am at Shelter 6, and the walk kicks off at 9:00 am. Opening remarks will be from the walk’s Honorary Chairperson, Sheriff B.J. Barnes.

Elder Abuse is a “silent epidemic” in our community—where no community is immune. One elderly person is victimized every 2.7 minutes. More than one in ten older adults may experience some type of abuse, but only one in five cases or fewer are reported. Elder financial abuse costs victims more than $2.6 billion per year! Up to 1 million older people may be targeted yearly!

For a chance to do your part in the challenge to raise awareness on this abuse, join your community at Triad Park in Kernersville on June 16, 2012.

For more information on the walk or to register, please contact Dorian Payne Fredricksen at 336-294-4950 or dfredricksen@ptrc.org.
