Special Collections at Carver Branch Library

The Carver School Road Branch Library has a large collection of African American fiction that include traditional bestselling authors such as Eric Jerome Dickey, Walter Mosely, and Carl Weber; and Urban novelist such as Zane, Vickie Stringer, and Wahida Clark; as well as Urban Christian authors, ReShonda Tate Billingsley and Jacquelin Thomas.

Carver also offers a large selection of Teen and Young Adult titles that include graphic novels and manga. Our growing collection of superhero graphic novels from Marvel and DC comics covers the latest adventures of Superman, Batman, Wolverine, Ironman, and the Incredible Hulk. And our collection continues to grow.

Along with the Young Adult titles are our new Girls With A Purpose (GWAP) Bookshelf. Named for the active teen girl club at Carver these non-fiction books are geared towards developing self-esteem, character building, and many other lifelong learning skills that young females need to possess in order to be empowered.

In addition, Carver also has a large collection of DVDs in popular genres such as Comedy, Drama and Action/Adventure. Carver offers a music CD collection consisting of “Best of” titles by Jazz, Blues, and R&B artists.

And soon we will add PlayAways to our audiobook collection for teens and adults. PlayAways are preloaded audio devices that have a complete book recorded on each individual player and can be attached to a lanyard for hands-free enjoyment. Simply add 2 AA batteries and earbuds and start listening on the go!
