Author Rachel Keener to Visit Book Club

Author Rachel Keener will visit Central Library's 4th Thursday Book Club to discuss her first novel, The Killing Tree, and to read from her newest novel, The Memory Thief, which will be released in 2010. The Killing Tree is an Appalachian coming-of-age novel that detours through a migrant workers camp for an intensely lyrical, emotional debut. Ms. Keener's vivid imagery and lush, folksy language evoke traditions about nature and mountain people, reality and myth, piety and sin. Her novel succeeds in envisioning a slice of mountain life where old and new, foreign and native, real and imagined, poetic and mundane blend against a harsh and beautiful landscape.

Light refreshments will be served. To learn more, visit the author’s website at www.rachelkeener.com. For more information on the 4th Thursday Book Club, call 703-3053.
Central Library, Room 204, Thursday, July 23 @ 12:30 PM.
