Mysterious Machine with Glowing Green Light Lands at Walkertown Library
Check out our new self-checkout machine!
Walkertown Branch Library staff and volunteers have been busy in 2020 preparing for the arrival of a new self-checkout machine and security gates. We're very excited to announce that the self-checkout machine is now up and running.
Step into the (green) light (if you're a book).
Using the self-checkout is pretty easy if you have your library card handy. Just lay your card down, barcode up, and listen for the beep.
Now you're ready to check out! Start laying the books on the green light under the screen and double-check the screen to make sure everything has gone through. Some books may have trouble with the machine, those can still be checked out with a friendly staff member at the front desk.
Worried about the employees? Worry not! We're not being replaced.
Checking books out is only a small portion of our day at Walkertown Branch Library and, while it may seem the machines are taking our jobs, worry not! We can do many things the machine cannot (tell you how nice it is to see you, for example).
We'll still be happy to see you at the front desk, ready to check your books out to you if you would rather have a person's help.
Now open with longer hours
If you're interested in putting our new machine assistant to the test, you can visit Walkertown Branch Library for our new, extended browsing hours.
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays — 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
