Explorers Win Survival Weekend 2018

“Survival Weekend” is an annual competition open to Explorers from across the state. Hosted at BSA Camp Raven Knob in Mt. Airy, the competition tests physical agility, strength, and teamwork, all while building quality leadership characteristics.

We are proud of all of our Explorers and their many accomplishments! (The results of the competition are as follows and are in no particular order in which the events occurred.)

  • Felony Vehicle Stop Team: Chase Maney & Brandon Dodson - 1st place
  • Obstacle Course Team (Mini-POPAT): Ishmael Gomez & Chase Maney & Tristin Cope - 1st place
  • Push-Ups (Females): Chase Maney- 1st place; Veronica Cortez - 2nd place
  • Push-Ups (Males): Ishmael Gomez - 3rd place; Saul Cortez - 4th place
  • Sit-Ups (Females): Chase Maney - 1st place; Veronica Cortez - 3rd place
  • Sit-Ups (Males): Ishmael Gomez - 6th place
  • Dodge-Ball Team: Tristin Cope & Isaiah Gomez & Brandon Dodson & Ishmael Gomez & Saul Cortez & Veronica Cortez & Maria Barroso - 2nd place
  • Suspect Run: Veronica Cortez - 4th place; Maria Barroso - 5th place; Chase Maney - 5th place; Ishmael Gomez - 6th place; Tristin Cope - 6th place
  • Survival Run: Chase Maney - 4th place; Tristin Cope - 6th place
  • Tug-O-War Team: Victor Sylva & Tristin Cope & Brandon Dodson & Saul Cortez & Ishmael Gomez - 5th place

FCSO Explorer Post 975 placed in every event but one. In eight (8) out of nine (9) events, Explorers secured at least one (1) of the top six (6) places. Accumulating 85 total points for the weekend’s events, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 975 won first place overall for the sixth (6th) time in seven (7) years.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 975 Program started around 1970 and is the oldest Post in the State of North Carolina. Open to well-qualified young men and women that are at least 14 years old, have completed eighth (8th) grade, and are not yet 21 years old, the program is designed to bring awareness of the criminal justice system. Specialized instructors from the FCSO lead Explorers year-round in training, practical experiences, competition, and other activities designed to promote personal growth, physical fitness, and good citizenship.

Explorers Cope, Maney, and Gomez win first place in the Obstacle Course (Mini-POPAT)competition.

Explorers Maney and Dodson win first place in the Felony Vehicle Stop competition.
