Explorer Post Participates in Survival Weekend

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Explorer Post 975 participated in an annual Survival Weekend competition on October 12th – 14th at Camp Grimes in McDowell County. The event was hosted by the North Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors. The competition is held each fall, and events vary each year.

The FCSO Explorer Post 975 members competed in the following events:

  • Push-ups in a minute
  • Sit-ups in a minute
  • Piggy Back Relay
  • Survival Run- 2 mile cross country run
  • Tug-o-War

Explorer Posts from all over the state, such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, were represented by over 50 Explorers. Explorer Post 975 members placed in the top 3 in 7 out of 8 events. The Explorer Post finished in 1st place overall. This was no small accomplishment due to the Explorer Post having the fewest number of members present. The FCSO is proud to be represented by a talented and hardworking Explorer Post team.

The Explorer Post program provides young adults interested in law enforcement comprehensive units in training, competition, service and practical experiences. Character development, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism are integral components of the program.

Through involvement in the program, Explorers develop an awareness of the purpose, mission and objectives of law enforcement. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has a cadre of dedicated law enforcement professionals that administer this program at the direction of Sheriff William T. Schatzman. Eligible applicants must have completed the 8th grade and be between the ages of 14 and 20 years old.
