After 5 Readers Book Club Presents...

We will be enjoying a wicked discussion of Gregory Maguire's Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Published in 1995, it is the first in "The Wicked Years" series, and was followed by Son of a Witch (published in September 2005), A Lion Among Men (published in October 2008), and Out of Oz (published in November 2011).

Yes, it is based on Frank L. Baum's beloved tale, The Wizard of Oz, and on the characterizations of the main characters from the 1939 movie. Yes, it is the inspiration for the 1999 Broadway smash Wicked. No, it is NOT a children's book in any way. And no, it is NOT as much of a feel good story as the musical. It IS intriguing, mesmerizing and very dark. It is also an excellent commontary on the nature of evil as well as the corruptive power of well, power itself.

Join the After 5 Readers on Monday, March 26th at 6pm in the Paddison Room of the Kernersville Branch Library.
