Stink Bugs are Everywhere!

Many folks wonder why stink bugs are so prevalent this year and seem to be invading our homes. Most likely the stink bug in question is the brown marmorated stink bug. This Asian stink bug has grown in population since last year and is a pest to a wide variety of crops including soybeans, fruits, and ornamentals.

When it's done feasting on these crops, they turn their attention to finding a place to overwinter. This situation is virtually identical to the problems we have with the Asian lady beetles, except they actually stink when you crush the. They are called STINK bugs for a reason! The problem is also identical to the beetle in that little can be done to stop them. Visit the N.C. Cooperative Extension website for information on how to deal with these pests.
