“Tea Time Cozies” Mystery Book Club

You are invited to join the Walkertown Branch Library’s cozy mystery book club, the “Tea Time Cozies.” Library staff and other mystery lovers will meet for a monthly discussion of a selected cozy mystery title and a nice cup of tea.

Cozies are a sub-genre of mysteries that feature an amateur detective who attempts to solve a community-based mystery. Add quirky characters, red herrings, an animal companion or two, maybe a food or library theme, and potentially a sleuthing cozy companion…and voila! A cozy mystery.

We'll be meeting every 4th Wednesday of the month, starting at 4 p.m., at the Walkertown Branch Library. Registration is suggested but not required.

Elementary, She Read by Vicki Delany

Gemma Doyle, a transplanted Englishwoman, has returned to the quaint town of West London on Cape Cod to manage her Great Uncle Arthur's Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium. The shop—located at 222 Baker Street—specializes in the Holmes canon and pastiche, and is also home to Moriarty the cat. When Gemma finds a rare and potentially valuable magazine containing the first Sherlock Homes story hidden in the bookshop, she and her friend Jayne (who runs the adjoining Mrs. Hudson's Tea Room) set off to find the owner, only to stumble upon a dead body.

Gemma is the police's first suspect, so she puts her consummate powers of deduction to work to clear her name, investigating a handsome rare books expert, the dead woman's suspiciously unmoved son, and a whole family of greedy characters desperate to cash in on their inheritance. But when Gemma and Jayne accidentally place themselves at a second murder scene, it's a race to uncover the truth before the detectives lock them up for good.

Colonel Protheroe, local magistrate and overbearing land-owner is the most detested man in the village. Everyone--even in the vicar--wishes he were dead. And very soon he is--shot in the head in the vicar's own study. Faced with a surfeit of suspects, only the inscrutable Miss Marple can unravel the tangled web of clues that will lead to the unmasking of the killer.
