On October 19th, Deputy Rae was dispatched to a report of a suicide threat. Upon arrival, Deputy Rae met with the reporting party and determined that their spouse had left their residence. The spouse had been worried about finances, diagnosed with depression and had left a suicide note. In addition, the spouse was in possession of unknown pills and a firearm.

Deputy Rae was able to obtain a cellular phone number for the suicidal subject and began to “ping” their phone via our Communication Center. The location of the subject was being updated every 15 minutes. The subject traveled extensively throughout the county as well as Stokes, Guilford and Surry Counties. As Deputy Rae coordinated efforts to locate the subject, he also had the person entered into NCIC as well as obtained a petition for Involuntary Commitment. After nearly five hours, the subject was located by Deputy Rae in a parking lot unharmed. Deputy Rae was able to secure the firearm and take custody of the person for transport and treatment to a local mental health facility.

Deputy Rae is commended for his tenacity and determination in locating this suicidal subject.
