Date Deadline or event
Friday, September 4, 2026 Absentee by-mail ballots available to be mailed; Military and Overseas ballots available to be distributed for the General Election.
Sunday, October 4, 2026 30-day residency deadline for the General Election.
Friday, October 9, 2026 Voter registration deadline for the General Election. Forms must be postmarked or delivered in person by 5 PM. Deadline for voters to change party affiliation.
Thursday, October 15, 2026 First day of early voting. Voting begins at 8 AM.
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 Last day to request an absentee by-mail ballot by 5 PM for General Election
Saturday, October 31, 2026 Last day of early voting ends at 3 PM
Tuesday, November 3, 2026 Election Day — General Election. Polls open at 6:30 AM and close at 7:30 PM; Deadline for all absentee by-mail ballots to be returned by 7:30 PM
Tuesday, November 10, 2026 Deadline for Absentee and provisional voters to submit Cure documentation by 12 PM for General Election
Thursday, November 12, 2026 Mailing UOCAVA Absentee Ballot Return Deadline by 5 PM.
Friday, November 13, 2026 Canvass 11 AM.

Primary and General Elections

In North Carolina, you may only vote in the primary election of the party with which you are affiliated/registered. If you register as unaffiliated, you may be allowed to vote in a primary election if a party allows unaffiliated voters to vote in their primary election. In primary elections you NOMINATE party candidates and in general elections you ELECT officials.

  • County Commissioner District B (4 seats, 4 year terms)
  • Board of Education District 1 (2 seats, 4 year terms)
  • Board of Education District 2 (4 seats, 4 year terms)
  • Board of Education At Large (3 seats, 4 year terms)
