Eldercare series at Central, Lewisville offers tips, resources for those caring for older adults

The Geriatric Adult Specialty Team (GAST) of Partners Health Management is presenting a series of eldercare seminars at two Forsyth County Library branches to help navigate the many challenges facing older adults and their caregivers and families.

GAST's registered nurses, licensed clinicians, and mental health professionals present these seminars to increase the community’s knowledge and understanding of mental health and substance use issues facing older adults. These programs are for the general public as well as for caregivers and those working in care centers needing continuing education credits.

February's session -- Emotional Wellness -- looks at social isolation, depression, health challenges and other issues affecting the well-being of older adults. It offers several strategies for managing your mood and perspective. The session includes interactive activities as well as take-home worksheets and a list of local resources for help.

The Emotional Wellness seminar will be held adjacent to the Lewisville Branch Library at the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center (131 Lucy Lane) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. and at Forsyth County Central Library on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. These seminars will run through the summer.
