On the Same Page with The Road to Devotion

The Library is proud to announce that this year’s annual On the Same Page, community read selection is The Road to Devotion by local author Cameron Kent.

It’s 1860 in Winston, North Carolina, on the eve of the Civil War. After her father’s death, young Sarah Talton is responsible for herself, her sister, and their family farm and slaves. Determined to make a success of the farm following her father’s no-nonsense example, Sarah finds herself drawn into an unusual and trusting friendship with escaped slave, Jacquerie. The tentative, and eventual growing bonds of friendship test both women and force Sarah to rethink her values and assumptions in the light of what she learns about the human heart and the many definitions of freedom.

On the Same Page, our community read project begins at the Bookmarks Festival of Books in downtown Winston-Salem on Saturday, September 10th, and features an appearance by our featured author, Cameron Kent. As always, we’ll be having events throughout the community, and of course, you’ll want to join us for one of our many book discussions scheduled through September and October. We’ll be screening several movies that complement the book. The book’s cover artist, Benita Van Winkle will be joining us, and we have other historical and cultural programs to enhance our celebration. We end with a very special musical event in October. So be looking for more dates and details for On the Same Page coming up in August!
