Housing
Increasing the quantity and improving the quality of affordable housing for low
and moderate-income families by focusing on:
- housing rehabilitation
- home buyer assistance
- homeownership counseling
- housing construction
- technical assistance
- grant writing
- minimum housing code enforcement
The County Housing Department serves the municipalities of Bethania, Clemmons, Kernersville,
Lewisville, Rural Hall, Tobaccoville, Walkertown and the unincorporated areas of
Forsyth County. Also, first time homebuyers can choose to purchase their home in
the Winston-Salem city limits.
The County uses local funds to leverage both state and federal housing assistance
dollars. Federal funding is awarded annually from the United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the HOME Consortium Program. Other funds
come from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) and the North Carolina
Department of Commerce’s Division of Community Assistance (DCA).
