Dixie Classic Fair Opens 2010 Competitive Entries

The Dixie Classic Fair, the second largest agricultural Fair in North Carolina and owned and operated by the City of Winston-Salem, has released the 2010 catalog for all competitive contests at the Fair. Ranging from livestock and fruit to poetry and wine, competitive entries serve as major focal attractions at the agricultural Fair. More than 3,500 competitors enter over 25,000 exhibits in these lively competitions annually.

Categories include written essays, flower arrangements and plants, decorated wreaths and Christmas trees, decorated apples, potatoes and pumpkins, fine arts and crafts, various breeds of dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, sheep, poultry and pigeons, the 22nd Annual "Homemade Ice Cream" Contest, The Great American SpamTM Championship Contest, Piedmont Book's "Meatballs in Marinara Sauce Contest" and many more. For winners, a series of colorful ribbons and cash awards totaling $225,000 are available. The following colors will be used to designate awards:

  • Champion - Royal Purple
  • Reserve Champion - Lavender
  • First Premium - Blue
  • Second Premium - Red
  • Third Premium - White
  • Fourth Premium - Pink
  • Fifth Premium - Yellow
  • Sixth Premium - Dark Green
  • Seventh Premium - Light Green
  • Eighth Premium - Brown
  • Ninth Premium - Gray
  • Tenth Premium and above - Light Blue

About Dixie Classic Fair

Celebrating its 128th year, the Dixie Classic Fair is the second largest agricultural Fair in North Carolina, with attendances averaging 325,000 visitors each year. Owned and operated by the City of Winston-Salem, after being donated to the City by the Winston-Salem Foundation in December 1969, the 10-day annual Fair features a world-class carnival with numerous rides and games, nationally known musical entertainment, delicious food and beverage, and exhibits for livestock, poultry, fine arts and crafts among many more.
