Light winds and sunny skies have provided a favorable environment for ozone production, which has elevated air quality levels into the low to middle Code YELLOW range this afternoon. Particle pollution is also trending slowly upward but should remain Code GREEN for the daily average. Winds will begin to increase out of the southwest tomorrow as a cold front approaches from the west. Skies should remain sunny enough into the early afternoon to allow ozone and particle pollution concentrations to increase, keeping air quality Code YELLOW for Thursday. An upper-level trough over the southeastern United States will sharpen and pull in a series of disturbances that will likely produce periods of showers and storms throughout the day on Friday to drop air quality levels to Code GREEN. Shower activity will likely persist into Saturday, though there should be more frequent breaks in the cloud deck to elevate air quality levels into the upper Code GREEN range. (Payne)
