Sheriff William T. Schatzman
William T. “Bill” Schatzman
exemplifies the spirit of “law enforcement”, not just because of his 24 year career
with the FBI, but from what he learned from his family. Bill’s father was a 30-year
veteran of law enforcement and retired as a Major in the Connecticut State Police.
The spirit of civil service to the community through law enforcement was instilled
in Bill from the very beginning and it has stayed with him.
Bill began his career in law enforcement in 1970 when FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover
hired him as Special Agent and assigned him to Washington, D.C. For 16 years prior
to his retirement, he worked in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem FBI Office.
During his service with the Bureau, Bill was assigned to investigate violations
of federal law. As a senior agent and manager, he field-trained and supervised other
Special Agents in all aspects of FBI work. He was North Carolina’s FBI Police Training
Coordinator directing the training provided by the FBI to local law enforcement.
That training included the FBI National Academy, the FBI Police Executive Institute
and other specialized police training from SWAT to supervision.
Bill received numerous personal awards and commendations from Director Hoover and
the other Directors for whom he worked. Bill received recognition for solving bank
robberies, supervising drug undercover operations directed at organized crime, breaking
white collar crime fraud cases and organizing and directing task force cases using
local law enforcement.
Bill retired in 1994 and started Schatzman & Associates, LLC, a security consulting
and investigation support service. Schatzman & Associates is a group of 400 former
FBI Agents located around the world who provide services to corporate clients on
loss prevention and risk management issues. They also provide investigative support
to law firms in civil and criminal litigation.
Bill is very active in the Winston-Salem community. He worked with the Senior PGA
Tour at the Vantage Championship as Director of Contestant and Guest Services. He
is a past chairman of the local chapter of the American Society of Industrial Security
and past chairman of the North Carolina Chapter of the Society of Former Special
Agents of the FBI. He is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
and he is a North Carolina Board certified, licensed and insured Private Investigator.
Bill is a graduate of Quinnipac University, located in Connecticut, where he received
a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He served 3 years in the
United States Marine Corps.
