Sergeant J. Sturkie has been employed with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for six (6) years. On March 27, 2023, Sergeant Sturkie was assigned as the Zone 3 Supervisor in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center. Sergeant Sturkie entered a housing unit to conduct a security tour. While conducting the security tour, Sergeant Sturkie looked up at the air duct and noticed a brown object sitting on the bracket that secured the ductwork. The object was retrieved and identified as being a “shank” (a makeshift knife or stabbing weapon made of contraband). Sergeant Sturkie’s initiative and continuous drive as a leader are admirable and her impact on others is obvious. Sergeant Sturkie is a dedicated supervisor who is passionate about her job and the officers that work alongside her. Sergeant Sturkie made the detention center a safer place for both the residents and officers. Due to Sergeant Sturkie’s analytical attention to detail and observation experience, she is being commended as the Detention Staff Member of the Month for March 2023.
