Recommended Reads from our Teen Advisory Board:

Recommended by Mackenzie
Title: "Jo & Laurie"
Author: Margaret Stohl & Melissa de la Cruz
Recommendation: A quirky and delightful retelling of the famous Little Women, Jo & Laurie is a charming book for those romantics who think that the most steadfast March sister deserved more than old Professor Bhaer. Intertwining elements of Alcott’s own life with her work’s most important plot points, Stohl and de la Cruz have crafted a lovely, heartwarming tale that will leave you feeling satisfied and ready to go in search of your own “Teddy” Laurence.

Title: "Rules of Civility"
Author: Amor Towles
Recommendation: Profound and beautifully evocative, Towles captures the true depth of humanity through writing that rivals that of the classics’. Set in that allusively stagnant period between the roaring years and the age of the Second World War, Rules of Civility gracefully depicts the New York scene in the 1930s while answering some of society’s most compelling questions about the meaning of life and the importance of the unknown in guiding you onto the right path.

Volunteer Opportunities for Teens at the Lewisville Branch Library:

Lewisville Branch Library's Teen Advisory Board
The Teen Advisory Board is made up of Lewisville Branch Library's teen volunteers (ages 12-18). We currently meet virtually via Zoom on the first Monday of the month to discuss ways to improve the Lewisville Branch Library's service to teens. The Teen Advisory Board helps to plan programs, create displays, and suggests resources that the library should purchase. They also recommend books that they have enjoyed to be added to recommended reading lists for teens.

Helping with Library Tasks
In-person volunteering has now resumed. We are limited to only two teen volunteers a day and only on Monday-Friday from 9-5 p.m. Tasks that we need help with around the library include shelving, organizing books, checking books for damage, helping prepare craft materials, decorating displays, watering plants, etc. At volunteer orientation, we will discuss what you are interested in helping with and are able to do.

For more information or to sign up to volunteer at the Lewisville Branch Library, contact Mia Jordan (Lewisville Branch Library's Youth Services Librarian) by calling 336-703-2940 or emailing jordanmc@forsyth.cc.
