FIRST FLOOR - Children's librarians are interested in helping you find what you need. Do you want to learn about a Venus fly trap, find joke books, read an award-winning story, get an idea for a science project, find a cookbook, read about Abraham Lincoln or Michael Jordan, or check-out Where the Sidewalk Ends just one more time? We can help you make the connection. Don't be shy, ask us.
Our books, DVDs, CDs, Playaways, and databases tapes, and CDs inform and entertain youth from infancy through age 13. Laptime books, early readers, folk and fairy tales and a variety of chapter books will provide you with journeys of wonder! Nonfiction titles can satisfy your curiosity about that bug in the back yard or answer your teacher's toughest homework assignment. CDs and Playaways Tapes and CDs with music and recorded stories round out a collection that is built with YOU in mind.
Along with our online catalog computers, we have one four early literacy station and two game computers (made available through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) that feature educational software, plus four Internet workstations with a word-processing program. Children 18 months up to 13 years old are eligible to use the Gates computers for up to 30 minutes per session. You can choose from dozens of games, interactive stories, and exploratory programs. Learning has never been so much fun! The four Internet stations are for children 13 and younger and may be used in 1 hour sessions. To use any of our computers, sign up with the Librarian at the Children's Room desk.
Summer Reading every year focuses on a different theme. We have explored bugs, world cultures, and dug deep into many subjects. Children are invited to participate in programs offered throughout the summer that promise to entertain, spark creativity, or engage the mind. Pirates, magicians, kid indie bands and the balloon lady are just some of the fun performers we have had in the past along with Librarian organized craft, story and educational programs. Children are encouraged to fill out reading logs to record all of their reading and turn them in for a Summer Reading Certificate!
