Making Proud Choices! An Evidence-Based, Safer-Sex Approach to Teen Pregnancy and HIV/STD Prevention is a 3 day long training that provides adolescents with the knowledge, confidence and skills necessary to reduce their risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sex or using condoms and birth control methods if they choose to have sex.

Drop by the Lewisville Branch Library on Wednesday, July 17 from 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. to meet the instructors of Making Proud Choices and learn more about the program. If you are interested in the Making Proud Choices program, this is a chance to ask questions about the curriculum.

Lunch each day is provided and gift cards are available with completion of the course.

At the completion of the program, youth will:
-Have increased their knowledge of HIV, STDs and pregnancy prevention.
-Believe in the value of safer sex, including abstinence.
-Improve their ability to negotiate abstinence/safer-sex practices.
-Increase their ability to use condoms and other birth control methods correctly.
-Have stronger intentions to use birth control methods if they have sex.
-Have a lower incidence of HIV/STD sexual risk-taking behavior.
-Take pride in choosing responsible sexual behaviors.

The curriculum is inclusive and mindful of sexual minorities. Many of the written cases/stories use gender neutral names and do not specifically identify genders.

This program is a collaboration between Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Forsyth Adolescent Health Coalition, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Planned Parenthood, and the Forsyth County Public Library.
