Forsyth County During World War I

Dr. Michael Sistrom, History Dept. Chair at Greensboro College, will present information about Forsyth County men’s and women's military service during World War I, but will highlight more of the local homefront experience.

While Dr. Sistrom’s research focuses on black politics and the civil rights movement in Mississippi and North Carolina, he also helped create the "North Carolinians and the Great War" and "North Carolina Experience" sections of the "Documenting the American South" web collection at UNC at Chapel Hill. He also contributed to a chapter on African American North Carolinians' experience in an edited collection on North Carolina in World War I published in 2017. Last fall his North Carolina History class helped the Greensboro Historical Museum create their temporary exhibit on Greensboro during World War I.

The events is sponsored by the Walkertown Area Historical Society.
