Beginner Basket Weaving at the Lewisville Library
Join us in learning how to create a Shaker style cathead basket (with or without a handle). These baskets are perfect for decorating your home or as a gift. Participants will be using rattan palm, better known as reeds, for the construction of their baskets. This is a two-part class that will take place on May 9th & 10th and participants will need to bring a few items with them. This class is for new participants only. We'll host an intermediate basket weaving class later this summer for previous participants. Please see a list of supplies below.
Instructor John Wald is a self-taught craftsman who has always enjoyed working with his hands. At age 14, he began working in a bakery and recently hung up his apron after 52 years. Along the way, he has learned how to make other hands-on crafts such as rug and chair seat weaving, basket making, chair caning, furniture, and wooden toys. His crafts have been sold at the Seagrove Pottery Festival and Old Salem Museums & Gardens.
