TRU Youth celebrate Earth Day with a clean-up!

On Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. the TRU Youth Advisory Council will be celebrating Earth Day with a Cigarette Litter Clean-Up at Tanglewood Park. The TRU Youth Advisory Council wants to tackle cigarette litter as part of their mission to raise awareness of the negative impacts of tobacco use both on human health and the environment.

Teen tobacco prevention efforts in Forsyth County are funded by the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund, and its TRU (Tobacco.Reality.Unfiltered) initiative has recruited roughly 13,000 NC teens to take the online tobacco-free pledge at www.realityunfiltered.com and this year hopes to engage increasing numbers of teens in activities at the local level.

To report smokers tossing cigarette butts out of car or truck windows (and other litter violations) contact the NC Office of Beautification’s Swat-A-Litterbug Program at (800) 331-5864 or visit their website.
