Corporal Receives Rufus Dalton Award

Corporal Ashley GaylorIt is with great pleasure to announce that Corporal Ashley Gaylor has received the 2009 Rufus Dalton Award.

The Rufus Dalton Award was designed to honor the bravery of a police officer injured in the line of duty or compensate the spouse of an officer killed in the line of duty. Each year, this award is given to an officer who has been injured in the line of duty.

On January 10, 2008, Corporal Gaylor, along with other officers, responded to the juvenile holding cell where several female juveniles were brought from the Detention Center waiting for court. One of the juveniles became aggressive with the other juveniles occupying the same holding cell. An attempt was made by talking to the disruptive juvenile to get her to exit the cell voluntarily. When this attempt failed, the juvenile was physically restrained and removed from the holding cell by Cpl. Gaylor and several other officers. The juvenile continued her aggressive behavior. In addition, the juvenile refused to walk on her own. the juvenile was carried by Cpl. Gaylor and several other officers to another holding cell on the first floor where she could be housed. Cpl. Gaylor injured her back as a result of the struggle and carrying the juvenile down several floors.

Congratulations Corporal Gaylor!
