La Biblioteca Pública del Condado de Forsyth es la primera Biblioteca en Carolina
del Norte en tener un servicio extendido dedicado a sus residentes hispanohablantes.
El número de hispanohablantes en el área ha crecido a más de 30,000 personas en
el año 2009 de aproximadamente 2,000 en el año 1997.
Forsyth County Public Library is the first public library in North Carolina to have
a dedicated outreach service to its Spanish-speaking residents. The number of native
Spanish-speakers in Forsyth County has grown to over 30,000 in 2009 from only about
2,000 in 1997.
La Biblioteca es también la primera en el estado en tener la única Biblioteca Rodante
Hispana, llamada el “Bibliobús”, la cual visita vecindarios con grandes poblaciones
hispanas así como centros de cuidado infantil que sirven a los hispanos. El Bibliobús
comenzó su servicio en la primavera del año 2005 y ha sido una fabulosa estrategia
para el alcance de los hispanos ayudando a la Biblioteca a cumplir sus esfuerzos
para servir a sus clientes hispanos los cuales tienden a tener transportación limitada.
Lo que resalta del Bibliobús es el extraordinario mural creado por Raúl Montero,
un nativo cubano que vive en Winston Salem, la capital del Condado de Forsyth. Actualmente
el Bibliobús esta en camino todos los días, incluyendo algunas tardes y fines de
semana para eventos en la comunidad.
The Library is also the first one in the state to have a Spanish Bookmobile — called
“Bibliobus” — that visits neighborhoods with large Hispanic populations, as well
as child care centers that serve Hispanics. The Bibliobus began service in the spring
of 2005 and has been a great strategy for the library’s Hispanic outreach, helping
to fulfill the Library’s efforts to serve their Hispanic patrons, who tend to have
limited transportation. The Bibliobus has become a community asset as it is also
invited to participate in many local community events. What stands out about the
Bibliobus is a unique wrap-around mural created by Raul Montero, a Cuban native
who lives in Winston-Salem, the Forsyth County seat. Currently the Bibliobus is
on the road every day of the week, including some evenings and weekends for school.

ofrece colecciones multimedia del lenguaje español y materiales bilingües en
la Biblioteca Central y en todas nuestras nueve sucursales. Nuestras sucursales

In addition to the Bibliobus’ collection, Forsyth County Public Library offers multimedia
collections of Spanish language and bilingual materials at the Central Library and
all nine branches. These collections contain a wide variety of materials for children
and adults, emphasizing attractive formats, easy readability, and Latino themes
to meet the needs of this special group. Most collections are shelved together to
facilitate family usage.
El Departamento es dirigido por Esmirna Esparza, una veterana de la Biblioteca de
Forsyth por 20 años quien tiene experiencia multicultural y habilidad trilingüe.
Asistente bilingüe Artemio García, quien es la nueva adición de tiempo parcial a
nuestro departamento, y una miembro bilingüe del servicio ACCESO de AmeriCorps.
The Department is headed by Esmirna Esparza, a 20-year Forsyth Library veteran who
has a multicultural background and trilingual skills. Bilingual assistants are Artemio
Garcia, our part-time Senior Library Assistant, and an AmeriCorps ACCESS Service
Member.
Numerosos programas especiales son ofrecidos en formato bilingüe para ambos inglés

A number of exciting special programs are offered by this department, not only for
Spanish speakers, but for English speakers as well. Please check our up-to-date

generously supported by the Hispanic League.

El departamento de Servicios Hispanos también desempeña un papel activo en
dos programas multiculturales patrocinados por el Comité de Diversidad Cultural
de la Biblioteca: la Feria Multicultural, que ocurre a principios de Marzo, y Linternas
de la Paz a finales de Julio.
The Hispanic Services department also plays an active role in two multicultural programs
sponsored by the Library’s Cultural Diversity Committee: the Multicultural Fair
in March and the Lanterns of Hope in either July or August.
