Piedmont Triad Regional Workforce Development Board

Purpose

The purpose of the PTRWDB is to facilitate successful partnerships among businesses, educators, organization and individuals to achieve a highly educated and skilled workforce resulting in a thriving community with full employment.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the PTRWDB , as prescribed by law, shall include but are not limited to:

A) Provide policy guidance for, and exercise oversight of activities under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) in partnership with the units of local government, partner agencies and businesses.
B) Work to increase the involvement of the business community and local Elected Officials in the Workforce Development System.
C) Work to increase private sector employment opportunities for eligible participants.
D) Create a system that offers universal access and customer choice for all job-seekers and employers.
E) Review plans and make recommendations to the Governor or other state/federal agencies requiring such review.
F) Foster cooperation and coordination between the PTRWDB and other groups with similar employment and training goals, particularly the Economic Development Agencies.
G) Prepares such reports that may be required.

Geographic Boundaries
The areas to be served by the PTRWDB are the Counties of Caswell, Davie, Forsyth, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin, which have been designated as a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Local area pursuant to the provision of Section 106 (WIOA).

Members

The PTRWDB shall consist of 25 voting members. At least a majority of the board membership, 13, shall be representatives of private sector industry and businesses. All private sector appointments shall be made by the respective Chief Elected Officials and shall be unanimous endorsements by the respective County/City legislative bodies.

Private sector members shall be owners, chief executives, or chief operating officers of their private sector businesses or shall have substantial management and policy responsibilities within their respective organizations. All private sector members must reside or have their principal place of business in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act area.

Nominations for appointments or vacancies for representatives from the non-business sector shall be solicited from a wide range of representatives, partners, and community based organizations. The board shall be responsible for soliciting these nominations and forwarding them to the legislative bodies for endorsement.

No member shall serve more than three (3) consecutive terms (6 years) or a total of five (5) terms (10 years) in any one
appointment position. An individual whose initial appointment is to fill an unexpired term or an initial staggered term of less than two years, shall be eligible to serve the number of full-length terms other members are eligible to serve, unless, prior to the time for reappointment that individual has already served six consecutive years. Members may be re-appointed at the discretion of the Chief Elected Official subject to the term limitations outlined in this section.

Meetings

The PTRWDB meets six times a year, the 3rd Wednesday of the following months: February, April, June, August, September and October from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Piedmont Triad Regional Council, 1398 Carrollton Crossing Drive, Kernersville, NC 27284.
